The Trailing Hook Method

I have had numerous emails, facebook messages, and messages in general asking about the trailing hook method I designed and starting using 2 years ago now. The following is a step by step on how to rig up a spoon using this method (I have now also created a commonly asked question follow up on… Read More The Trailing Hook Method

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVIII – A Finishing Touch

After finally finishing off the brood collection, it was time to spend my days much closer to home, on the Vedder river. I typically avoid fishing it. It’s super busy, and Covid has actually made it a much busier April than normal this year. Everyone is laid off, and fishing seems to be the one… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVIII – A Finishing Touch

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVII – A Final Goal

When I first got back to the mainland, my fishing bug had severely diminished. There’s definitely a much more limited selection of fisheries available, and I tend to lose my drive as soon as there are crowds involved. Fishing so much throughout the winter tends to burn me out too. It wasn’t until my work… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVII – A Final Goal

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVI – Last Chance

We decided day two of our trip up to Marc’s area would be on a river that all of us really like. I’ll never forget the first day Marc and I had gone there. We walked in to find a system absolutely ravaged by logging. The lower end was disgusting, and after walking up for… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XVI – Last Chance

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XV – Something Old, Something New

After such an incredible day on Saturday, I was up for a bit more of a challenge on Sunday. There’s one river in particular that I’ve been fishing for years and have never gotten a steelhead in. Six years ago was the first time Kitty and I had tried this particular river for steelhead with… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XV – Something Old, Something New

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XIV – Exploration

I rarely fish with many people other than Kitty, Mike, or Marc. Kitty and I do occasionally get out with a few other friends though, and just before this weekend, another one of our friends (Mark) had asked if we were going out this weekend, and if he could tag along. After my very successful… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XIV – Exploration

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XIII – The Bump

As mentioned in the previous post, there was finally rain in the forecast. The day that the rain hit, I decided to go back to one last “low water river” to give it a shot before it would inevitably rise and colour up. I’ve always found this location best in absolutely low and clear conditions.… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XIII – The Bump

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XII – Cutthroat Chronicle II

This is perhaps the part of my season that I’ve been the most eager to write about. There’s something about cutthroat trout that make me happy, and I find myself reverting back to them more and more each passing season. Many people don’t know this about me: when I started fishing, I rarely used anything… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XII – Cutthroat Chronicle II

Catalogue and Conquer – Part XI – A Long Wait

I left off with my last blog on a great weekend of fishing. After that weekend ended, the rains kicked in pretty good. After a day of the rain stopping, I finally had a window to get out. My flow of choice was one that I had visited earlier in the year without any form… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part XI – A Long Wait

Catalogue and Conquer – Part X – Deja Vu

I was right that Kitty would want to go back. The weather was looking fantastic (a rain bump was coming for the weekend), and I knew there were fish around, so when Kitty wanted to go back to Marc’s, I happily obliged. I quickly put together our game plan. My first choice was to take… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part X – Deja Vu

Catalogue and Conquer – Part IX – Road Trip

At the end of the last blog, I had mentioned that I had been meaning to visit Marc for a while. Typically, Kitty and I almost always find our way to his place for a weekend trip by the beginning of January. This year, December and January were dominated by exceptionally high water, followed almost… Read More Catalogue and Conquer – Part IX – Road Trip

One of those special places that still exist. Yep, this river still has fish. Very untouched, quite remote, and very difficult to descend into. This particular river in one we hold the most dear - it took us a few hard days of exploring to even find a way in. To this day, even after around 40 trips down into the canyon, all we've seen in this stretch are wolf, cougar and deer tracks.
